The 94-rated beast from Ashton cigars.
Ashton VSG cigars are extremely well-made gems from the Dominican Republic that represent one of the cigar world's most prized non-Cuban cigars. The tobaccos used are exquisite, making each cigar within the line a homerun from start to finish. Taken from the tobacco plant's highest primings, the Ecuadorian sun grown wrapper offers a rich, reddish hue and spicy, chewy flavor. The 4-5 year old Dominican long-fillers are masterfully blended to promote a smooth, but eventful flavor that's hearty and robust. Together, these tobaccos combine to satisfy even the most achieved palates.
Good news! The Ashton VSG has received a 94-point rating and was ranked in the top 25 cigars of 2023, with the review stating "[This cigar] has a powerful earthy base punctuated and enhanced by a rich, precise roasted peanut quality that resonates clearly on the palate."

Ashton Virgin Sun Grown (VSG)
An absolutely phenomenal cigar. The wrapper was dark and oily, creating a slow even burn. The flavor profile introduced notes of smooth dark coffee, maple, and pepper. All of these flavors blended perfectly without anything becoming harsh or overwhelming.

One of my all time favorite cigars. Another outstanding smoke. Paired with a Starbucks Sugar Cookie latte.

Great smoke but horrible burn. I’ll take the blame for that this time as I’m thinking it was right up against the bodeva pack in the humidor… Got it to even out and smoked it extra slow and that helped keep the burn a little more even. If it wasn’t for that it would have gotten 4.5-5 stars. Next one I’ll dry box just to be safe.

Nice to revisit. At Sam’s restaurant
Ashton Virgin Sun Grown (VSG)
So far the most plesurable cigar that I have tried. Beautiful, dark wrapper with eye-catching band, apperance, precise, tight-packed tobacco with perfect draw and burn. Speaking of technicalities, it was 10/10 experience. When it comes to flavour I thought I would get something different from sun grown wrapper. Nevertheless it was a bad surprise or disappointment. Flavour-wise this stick was stable throughout whole smoke session. Every puff, from tip to bottom, was almost identical. I could sense a blend of roasted coffee, black pepper, maple syrup and walnuts. None of them dominated the palette and that is why it was also hard for me to detect all flavours this cigar could offer. So far, this has been the most pleasurable cigar I've tried. It boasts a beautiful dark wrapper and an eye-catching band, with a precise, tightly packed tobacco construction that delivers a perfect draw and burn. From a technical standpoint, the experience was a flawless 10/10. In terms of flavor, I expected something different from a sun-grown wrapper. In truth, I based my expectations merely on other people's opinions on dark wrappers so that's it. However, it wasn’t an unpleasant surprise or a disappointment—just not what I had anticipated. The flavor profile remained consistent throughout the entire smoke session. Every puff, from start to finish, offered a well-balanced blend of roasted coffee, black pepper, maple syrup, and walnuts. None of these notes overpowered the others, making it challenging to pick apart all the nuances the cigar had to offer. I will definitely give it another go. Paired with a stout beer—an excellent choice for now, considering my limited experience and still-developing palate. I will give it another go 100%. Paired with stout beer. Could not choose better for now, regarding my lack of experience and still developing palette.

Outstanding cigar as always. Unfortunately, this time the burn line had a runner down the side that I had to touch up through the first half of the cigar. Generally a great experience, and I'll look forward to more.

Great birthday cigar. Perfect delivery through-and-through with lots of spice.

These cigars pretty much always start with strong spice on the tongue and this was no exception. Outstanding. There was also a hint of dried fruit as the cherry formed. Perhaps dried current? The middle was a steady wood flavor. Oak maybe. And finally it finished with a notable but tame spice at the end. Really just great. Only complaint was the burn needed regular attention and a few relights. No big deal.
