It’s Last Call… er, again?
Much like the film ‘biz, we’re an industry obsessed with sequels. Unlike summer blockbusters, though, cigar manufacturers have a great track record of improving upon their original releases, crafting fitting tributes and mouthwatering line extensions that oftentimes outshine the first blend. Today, we welcome the Last Call Maduro by A.J. Fernandez to CI, and I’ve gotta say, this follow-up might just be the true masterpiece of the duo.
Originally crafted as A.J.’s personal final cigar of the night, Last Call was released nationally just a few years back, and it went gangbusters. Today, we’re staring down the same blend, just donned in a Pennsylvania Broadleaf Maduro wrapper that’s silky-smooth in all the right ways. Lighting this one up, you’ll be greeted with a Molotov cocktail of dark chocolate, espresso, black pepper spice, and a thick, molasses-like sweetness in the background.

3 - Buy a five-packer. This stick was a leather bomb. Dark earth and and a bit of spice on the retrohale. It also produced an incredible amount of smoke. The vitola size was great. Its an hour smoke with a great ring gauge. 1 - End of Days (98 -100) 2 - Buy a box (90 - 97) 3 - Buy a five-packer (74 - 89) 4 - Bargain-buy (55 - 73) 5 - One & done (35 - 54) 6 - Life is too short (15 - 34) 7 - Strait to jail (0 -14)

Super thick bold blend of chocolate, espresso, and pepper. Thick but not a tough draw. Smooth clean burn, amazing smoke.

Bitter chocolate, leather, and cayenne pepper that seemed to linger but in a good way. Also picked up some grassy notes. Overall a pleasant experience.

El primer tercio fue bastante flojo, poco aroma y el sabor confuso. Siento cuero y paja, un poco de pan tostado y no mucho más. El segundo tercio fue mejorando poco a poco pero una mala combustión no me dejó apreciarlo en su totalidad. Al final siento un poco de amoníaco (no sé si por encenderlo varias veces), y aunque al final mejoró el sabor, creo que está lejos de ser un gran puro.
