Not only have the folks at Drew Estate Cigars won the world over with their countless infused blends, but they amazed everyone with their traditional Liga Privada No. 9. Not to rest on their laurels, they have since come out with a handful of small batch, traditional lines that are well worth the attention.
Undercrown was created at the rolling tables by Drew Estate's rollers — not in a board room or meeting. The story goes as such: Drew Estate allows their rollers to smoke any of the cigars in production, and the rollers loved the original Liga Privada No. 9 blend so much that it was all they ever smoked. While most would consider that a ringing endorsement, Drew Estate was worried about the availability of the tobaccos. The primings used for the No. 9 are so rare and limited that they had to remove Liga Privada No. 9 from the list of cigars the rollers are allowed to smoke. The rollers then improvised and used different primings of the same tobacco to make a new blend they could enjoy in the factory every day. This new blend impressed the Drew Estate team so much that they rolled it out to the market, and thus, Liga Privada Undercrown was born.
Capturing a similar character and profile as the No. 9 blend it's based on, Undercrown is an exceptional cigar in its own right. Featuring a dark, San Andrés wrapper, a US Connecticut 'T52' Stalk-Cut binder, and a potent combo of Brazilian Mata Fina & Nicaraguan long-fillers, this medium to full-bodied blend offers rich, creamy flavors — equal parts sweet as it is savory with a long, rewarding finish. This San Andrés leaf adds some spice to the blend and makes its presence known in the onset of the cigar. The blend develops nicely with flavors of espresso and hints of cashews. Undercrown comes off as a medium-bodied cigar that expels a lot flavor with a cool, perfectly even burn. Expect a medium finish as this blend is perfect for every enthusiast.

Repeated review with this one resting for 22 months. Well blended flavors of wood and spice come though with a very heavy smoke output. The burn stayed more even this time around.

It's been a couple years since I've smoked this blend. Just opened this box that's been resting for 21 months. Well blended flavors of wood and spice come though with a very heavy smoke output. The burn waved a couple of times in need of some corrections.

This Nicaraguan Maduro was a beautiful medium to full-bodied smoke. It offered hints of dark cocoa, pepper, and a touch of earthiness. The Mexican San Andreas wrapper added a chocolatey sweetness to the smoke. The complexity of the flavor profile was impressive. It had a great smoke burn and smoke output. It was a little bold for my tastes but VERY GOOD. Among the best I’ve had, it’s a perfect medium-bodied stick for a humidor.

Smooth flavors of chocolate and coffee. Very light pepper on the retro. Great draw and tons of smoke. Touched up twice.

TL;DR - the cigar is like a cocoa / espresso parfait 🍨 washed down with cola. Recommended! 👍 6 months aged ⏳️ Pre-light flavor is apricot with floral and light barnyard nose. Goldilocks draw. Light-up is outstanding. Starts with a sweet, light cocoa with a little nut. Cola (like, watered down) on retrohale. Different, and I like it. At the 1/3 transition espresso bean joins in. This one was consistent and great to the end. Drew Estates delivers again!

Aged 4mo. Draw a bit airy, burn wavy but no touch ups. Rich flavors of chocolate espresso and earth with a touch of sweet. Pairing with Kaniche Perfeccion Rum brought out the chocolate and espresso flavors in the cigar and the sweetness of the rum was enhanced. Delicious!
