E.P. Carrillo delivers the goods. Owner Ernesto Perez Carrillo has forgotten more about cigar making than most know. He sold his well-known La Gloria Cubana brand 10 years ago and then launched E.P. Carrillo in 2010. And he’s done it all over again, patiently building another empire by crafting winner after winner. Headlining today's act is EPC La Historia, the 96-rated monster featuring a gorgeous Mexican San Andres wrapper concealing an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican long filler recipe. Full of sweetness, it throws off dense smoke and a luxurious array of flavors including nuts, black pepper, and chocolate. Rich flavors coat the palate. A real treat. Full-bodied, full-on awesome. Box-pressed.

E.P. Carrillo La Historia
3 - Buy a five-packer This is one of the first blends that I smoked many moons ago. Its one that I had held on a pedestal and was concerned a future smoke wouldn't live up to it. Welp, it did fall a bit in my eyes, however not too much. I do love the blend, however the Senator is feel is a better vitola. Pretty strong chocolate, and the pepper drops off pretty quick after the first third. I also feel like it almost has a baby powder profile to it. Ive gotten this on a few other cigars and I'm not sure what to make of it. My only other real complaint is that the packing on this feels very light. It's a smoke machine for how light it is, rich and velvety smooth, but it has light pack. Regardless, good stick but in the future I'll go for the robusto. 1 - End of Days (98 -100) 2 - Buy a box (90 - 97) 3 - Buy a five-packer (74 - 89) 4 - Bargain-buy (55 - 73) 5 - One and done (35 - 54) 6 - Life is too short (15 - 34) 7 - Strait to jail (0 -14)

Aged 1 year ⏳️ Pre-light is sweet and floral. Light-up is easy. Core is dark roasted oak with early notes of licorice and stewed fruit. Dark coffee develops and stays in the core. A few wrapper breaks develop. None cause smokability issues. Paired with black coffee which neither seems to enhance nor detract from the experience. Recommended 👍

Aged 1 year, and dry-boxed a few days ⏳️ This one starts with a very pleasant floral pre-light. Easy-going light-up reveals roasted oak 🪵 and a coffee core ☕️ This fantastic smoke teases a bit of raisin at the beginning of the second third. Smoke output is dark, rich and sophisticated. Linear and satisfying 👍

A solid member of my long-term humidor. 1 year aged ⏳️ Recommended 👍 Coffee core with regular notes of sweet stewed fruit. I'm having mine with an IPA and it's a great match.

Solid

E.P. Carrillo La Historia
A very bold and dark expression, portraying a profile of deep espresso, dark chocolate, and black pepper. A subtle sweet note comes through at times. The construction is very firm, keeping a level burn and adequate draw without any issues.

E.P. Carrillo La Historia
Dark toasted oak core. Intermittent tangy wood.

E.P. Carrillo La Historia
Dark toasted oak core. Wood flavors are intermittently tangy. Black cherry hints at the finish.

TL;DR - dark toasted oak core, light spice and distant intermittent raisin. Recommended 👍 9 mos aged ⏳️ Pre-light faint maduro tobacco. Expert construction and draw. Light-up is dark, toasted wood 🪵 Burn is great. Light spice teases the tongue. Will it be spicy or not? As the first third comes to an end, the toasted wood has mellowed and a faint raisin comes and goes 👌 Toasted oak retrohale. Approaching the end of the second third, the core flavor has been toasted wood. The raisin hint arrives more often in the final third. There's not much of a flavor journey here, yet it has been a very good cigar. Medium to strong strength nicotine; light to medium flavors. Pair with sweet meats 🍖 (BBQ?), and sweet drinks like cola. Whiskey and Islay scotch seem obvious also. Not sure that coffee ☕️ would be a good idea.

Almost 1 year in the humidor. Great burn and draw. Coffee and leather and just enough cocca. Final 3rd the tar built up preventing a finish to the nub. Otherwise an excellent cigar.
